Isle of Dogs
CPI Connect were commissioned by Jeremy Hackett of Hackett London to design and print a photographic ‘tea table’ book featuring his Sussex spaniels, Muffin & Harry. The book is titled ‘Isle of Dogs’ which is a play on the phrase “I love dogs” and the project emerged from Muffin and Harry’s growing popularity on Instagram, with Jeremy often taking photographs of the dogs during his walks around London. We work extensively with the Hackett brand so there was a natural symmetry to us sitting down together and scoping out the book.
It was a very collaborative project, with Jeremy visiting us regularly in our design studio in Shoreditch to curate the images and discuss the design with our team. The book, which is just slightly bigger than A5, is quarter bound with cloth, thread-sewn and features debossed covers. We created a unique colour for the ink in our in-house ink lab in CPI Colour for the text pages which were printed on Arco print milk.
The book was launched to great acclaim with press and PR at Howe in Pimlico with the specific aim to raise awareness for the Sussex spaniel, a very rare British breed. The reception was so great that a re-print was ordered one week after release.
